Balance and harmony between color and text to create an attractive cover are keys to catching the reader's attention. Our graphic designers can create a cover for your publication. However, if you design the cover yourself there are a few things to keep in mind. Titles published by TEACH Services, Inc. are 4-color covers and are subject to TEACH Services’ approval due to the fact that we will be marketing your publication. Color is the key to good cover design and can add to the effectiveness of catching the book buyers attention. The book title, subtitle and author’s name need to be on the front cover, and the spine needs to include the title, author’s last name and the publisher’s symbol. Photos, artwork and/or illustrations can be used in designing the cover. The back cover can incorporate text telling about the book and author, including quotes and/or testimonials. Also the publisher, price and bar or scan code (UPC, or Universal Product Code) should appear on the back cover. Most chain and larger bookstores require correct barcodes on each title so they may electronically scan them at the checkout. And, as mentioned in the Pre-Pages/Back Matter section, “Books In Print Subject Guide” also uses the UPC when listing your title. Therefore, providing a UPC is essential to marketing your title to the fullest extent possible. | | |
